The Resume

    (December 16, 1970-May 27, 1973)
    Aired on NBC
Anthology of horror/supernatural stories linked to the paintings on display in the titular gallery
    Hosted by Rod Serling

Why Night Gallery might be annoying:

An anthology series? Twist endings? Rod Serling? Somehow, it all seems vaguely familiar.
Serling complained that he did not have same degree of control over the content that he had enjoyed at 'The Twilight Zone.'
Many of the special effects have not aged well.
When the reruns were syndicated, it went from an hour-long show with multiple stories per episode to a 30-minute show with a single story per episode; in order to fit the new time constraints, longer stories were heavily edited, while shorter segments were padded with stock footage.
The syndicated version also incorporated 25 episodes of an unrelated series, 'The Sixth Sense,' with Serling providing newly filmed introductions.

Why Night Gallery might not be annoying:

While 'Twilight Zone' focused mostly on sci-fi, 'Night Gallery' emphasized the supernatural.
Serling won an Edgar Award for writing the pilot.
Steven Spielberg made his directorial debut with a segment of the pilot episode.
It had many memorable guest stars, including Joan Crawford, Vincent Price,, Roddy McDowall, and <510>Sally Field.
The series featured the first TV adaptations of H.P. Lovecraft stories: 'Pickman's Model' and 'Cool Air.'
The Simpsons' 'Treehouse of Horror IV' parodied 'Night Gallery' as a framing device. (It was also the last Simpsons Halloween episode to feature a wraparound segment.)
