Why he might be annoying:

Although spelled 'Nat,' his first name is pronounced with a long A sound.
His nicknames included the pornish 'Deadwood Dick' and 'Red River Dick.'
After selling the horse he won in a raffle, instead of getting out of Dodge, he ran away to Dodge... Dodge City to become a cowboy.
Some of his adventures were dismissed as tall tales.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was born into slavery.
His father taught him how to read and write, skills outlawed under slavery.
He was an excellent roper, talented cattle herder and expert marksman, with the Colt .45 being his revolver of choice.
With his swagger, exciting life and triumph over racial adversity, he is the most famous black cowboy ever.
The clothing line that introduced hot pants to the US named itself in his honor because he was a 'groovy guy (1969).'
