The Resume

    (1895- )
    Born in Sweden
Award created by Alfred Nobel to honor whosoever:
'shall have done the most or the best work for the fraternity between nations'
Famous winners include; Martin Luther King, Mother Teresa, <8706>Lech WalesaDalai Lama<2450> and Nelson Mandela
Winners are selected annually by a committee chosen by the Norwegian Parliament

Why The Nobel Peace Prize might be annoying:

It is by far the most controversial of the Nobel Prizes.
Controversial winners include; terrorist Yasser Arafat, Soviet dictator Mikhail Gorbachev, global warming guru Al Gore, and Henry Kissinger.
U.S. President Barack Obama was nominated for it after being in office less than three weeks and won it after less than a year in office for no apparent reason.
Controversial omissions include; five time nominee Mohandas Gandhi, <19796>Vaclav Havel<19796>, and <513>Corazon Aquino<513>.
The award committee chairman admitted that U.S. President Ronald Reagan and Gorbachev did not win it in 1988 for negotiating the world's first ever nuclear arms reduction treaty because the committee did not want it to help out then Vice-President George Bush's presidential campaign. The 1988 award went to U.N peacekeeping troops and Gorbachev won it solo in 1990.
The United Nations, or one of its subsidiaries, has won it eight times.
Woodrow Wilson won it for founding the League of Nations (boy did that turn out great), Al Gore won it for giving slide shows on global warming, and no one knows who Philip J. Noel-Baker (1958) was or why he won.
No award has been given in nineteen separate years, including the year Gandhi was martyred.

Why The Nobel Peace Prize might not be annoying:

Despite the controversies, it is still the most prestigious award on the planet.
The winners get a butt load of money.
It has given an incalculable amount of help to the winners and their causes.
It has been very effective in bringing positive publicity to previously unknown winners and their causes like Bishop Carlos Belo and Jose Ramos-Horta of East Timor.
Winners like King, Mother Teresa, and Mandela have been among the greatest figures of the entire twentieth century.
As of 2010, twelve women have won the prize, more than any other Nobel Prize.
The International Red Cross, or one of its subsidiaries, has won it four times.
