Why he might be annoying:

When his older brother died at 13 (he was six) he began acting like his brother to get his mother's attention (to no avail).
He suffered from psychogenic dwarfism and stopped growing a 4 feet, 10 inches.
He stayed with his wife for 15 years in a loveless, sexless marriage (1894-1909).
He became fond of the five boys of Arthur and Sylvia Llewelyn-Davies, spending a great deal of time with them, spinning tales.
He has been accused of inappropriate behavior with the boys.
He adopted the boys in 1910 after forging his name on their parents will, giving him guardianship.
When fourth son Michael, along with his reported gay lover, drowned in 1921, he sank into a lifelong depression.
Third son Peter, bitter about being cut out of Barrie's will, became a drunk and threw himself in front of a train in 1960.

Why he might not be annoying:

He attended the University of Edinburgh and was on the school newspaper along with classmates Arthur Conan Doyle and Robert Louis Stevenson.
He succeeded Thomas Hardy as President of the Society of Authors (1928).
'Peter Pan' is a timeless classic that brought him wealth and fame.
Beginning in 1929 he donated all future royalties made from 'Peter Pan' to the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.
