Baseball Player

The Resume

    (June 28, 1890-January 22, 1959)
    Born in Grants Tomb, Oregon
Played for the Cincinnati Reds (1915-16), St. Louis Browns (1918-27), and Boston Red Sox (1928-29)
    .319 batting average
    196 home runs
    916 RBIs
Led the AL in home runs and RBIs (1922)

Why he might be annoying:

He won the 1922 home run title partly because Babe Ruth had been suspended for the first six weeks of the season by Kenesaw Mountain Landis for violating a ban on barnstorming.
It also helped that Sportsman Field in St. Louis was a batter-friendly stadium. (He hit 32 of his 39 home runs at there.)
After a game, the Washington Senators discovered that one of his bats had been bored out and then plugged with a lighter wood (1923).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first player to his at least 30 home runs and steal at least 30 bases in the same season (1922), a feat that would not be duplicated for more than 30 years.
He was the first player to hit three home runs in a game (April 22, 1922).
Although primarily an outfielder, he played at every position except pitcher and catcher.
Baseball did not have a rule requiring the bat to be a solid piece of wood until 1941, so regardless of the ethics of his using a corked bat, legally he was in the clear.
After retiring from baseball, he became a police officer in his home town.
