Why he might be annoying:

'Eve of Destruction' was his only solo Top 40 hit.
'Eve of Destruction' was so polarizing it inspired a conservative answer record, 'Dawn of Correction' by the Spokesmen.
He became born again and started recording 'contemporary Christian' music.
He has re-recorded 'Eve of Destruction' multiple times, updating the lyrics to include new events.

Why he might not be annoying:

He wrote the hits 'Green, Green' for the New Christy Minstrels and 'Greenback Dollar' for the Kingston Trio.
His recording of 'Eve of Destruction' was meant to be a rough demo, but it leaked out to a local DJ, who began playing the song, convincing the label to release it as is.
'Eve of Destruction' hit #1 in the US and #3 in Britain, and sold over a million copies.
He got name checked in The Mamas and the Papas' hit 'Creeque Alley.' ('McGuinn and McGuire still getting higher/In L.A., you know where that's at')
