The Resume

    (October 4, 1901-March 17, 1974)
    Born in Akron, Ohio
Birth name was Robert Carroll Nye
Portrayed Frank Kennedy in ‘Gone with the Wind’
Select filmography includes 'The Heart of Maryland (1927),' 'The Girl from Chicago (1927),' 'The Silver Slave (1927),' 'While the City Sleeps (1928),' 'Land of the Silver Fox (1928),' 'The Flying Fleet (1929),' 'The Girl in the Glass Cage (1929),' 'The Squall (1929),’ 'The Lawless Woman (1931),' 'King of the Wild (1931),' 'Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm (1938),' 'Blossoms in the Dust (1941),' and 'The Trail Blazers (1940)'

Why he might be annoying:

His career took a nosedive after ‘Gone With the Wind’ - the very opposite of what happened for nearly everyone else involved with the film.
He cleaned up nice as a leading man - but is usually only pictured as Scarlett’s fugly yokel husband who gets killed offscreen (caked in old age makeup and sporting a fake beard with sideburns).
The character was so widely disliked that David Selznick had toyed with eliminating Frank from the script altogether, and had to be persuaded to leave him in.
His last film appearance was an uncredited role as a reporter in 'Wilson' (1944).

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked with Groucho Marx during his days at CBS.
His mother was the club editor of the Los Angeles Times.
He worked as a reporter for the Times until 1925, when he chose to pursue a movie career.
He attained star status fairly quickly - in just a couple years securing roles opposite Myrna Loy and Anita Page.
He held his own opposite Rin Tin Tin in two movies back-to-back (this in the silent era, when the canine thespian’s popularity was at its zenith).
After his film career ended, he found success as a Hollywood journalist and publicist.
