Football Player

The Resume

    (February 18, 1895-December 14, 1920)
    Played for Notre Dame
One of the initial inductees to the College Football Hall of Fame (1951)

Why he might be annoying:

To earn money his freshman year, he hustled pool.
He was suspended at the beginning of the 1919 season for missing too many classes.
He was the only player coach Knute Rockne regularly allowed to skip practice.
It may have made for an inspiring speech, but he probably did not ask anyone to ‘win one for the Gipper' on his deathbed.

Why he might not be annoying:

He became a star in college football despite never playing in high school.
He was the first Notre Dame player named an All-American.
Rockne's ‘win one for the Gipper' speech rallied Notre Dame to upset an undefeated Army team (November 12, 1928).
The New York Daily News reported the win under the headline ‘Gipp's Ghost Beat Army.'
Ronald Reagan adopted ‘win one for the Gipper' as a campaign slogan.
