The Resume

    (July 2, 1933-October 24, 1978)
    Born in Belen, New Mexico
Birth name was Maria Gloria Castillo
Portrayed Ruby in ‘Night of the Hunter’ (1955)
Acted in 'The Vanishing American,' 'Invasion of the Saucer Men,' 'Runaway Daughters,' 'Reform School Girl,' and 'Teenage Monster'

Why she might be annoying:

Charles Laughton cut part of her big scene from the lynch mob finale outside the courthouse in Night of the Hunter.
The scene had Miss Cooper (Lillian Gish) dragging Ruby off as she looked back, starry-eyed, crying out: ‘They'll git him out! I'll git my things ready! My shawl and my Mickey Mouse watch that don't run and the straw hat with the flower, and we'll be married and live happily ever after!’ (her character was still in love with Robert Mitchum’s murderous preacher for God knows why).
The critical and commercial failure of Night of the Hunter consigned her to the B-movie circuit, mainly teen movies and Sci-Fi flicks (her performance and the film wouldn’t gain a real audience for decades).

Why she might not be annoying:

‘Night of the Hunter’ was her film debut.
She guested on episodes of Gunsmoke, General Electric Theater, and The Wonderful World of Disney.
She was nervous filming her scenes with Robert Mitchum in the drugstore, and Charles Laughton (himself a first-time director) would remind her: 'Relax! Nothing's happening to you. No knives or anything ... [This] should be wonderful fun!'
When film roles dried up, she started a dress making business which became very successful.
She developed a cancerous tumor in the back of her mouth, which was attributed to the carcinogens used in her dress factory (the cancer spread and she died shortly after the diagnosis).
Her son, composer Joshua Kadison, wrote the song ‘Mama’s Arms’ for his debut album, as a tribute to his late mother.
