Why they might be annoying:

They were spinsters who never married or had children.
They may not have written the lyrics for ‘Happy Birthday to You’ (their version was called ‘Good Morning to All’).
They copyrighted the melody, and their family sued the pants off anybody who used it in public performance.
Because of the copyright, chain restaurants like Applebee’s have come up with excruciating birthday alternatives to sing to customers.
Some people believe Paul McCartney now owns rights to the song, but he does not.

Why they might not be annoying:

They were both elementary school teachers.
Patty helped found Columbia University’s Institute of Child Welfare Research.
She also invented a type of children’s block that is still used today.
Mildred was an accomplished musician and musicologist.
They are in the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame for ‘Happy Birthday to You.’
Anybody can legally sing the song, as long as they don’t make money from it.
Marilyn Monroe famously sexed it up for her lover John F. Kennedy.
The song is one of the three most popular in the English language, according to the ‘Guinness Book of World Records.’
They are still named in movie credits whenever ‘Happy Birthday to You’ is used.
