Why he might be annoying:

In high school, he would frequently ditch class or get into fights with other students.
He suffers bouts of depression.
He said, 'I can't get excited by my own music.... My voice sucks. I don't like the tone.'
He rarely interacts with the audience between songs and sometimes performs in the dark because of shyness.
When told by an interviewer that Daniel Craig was a fan, he said he had never heard of Craig. ('I'm not up to date with what's happening in the entertainment world.')

Why he might not be annoying:

After his mother left her abusive husband, the family sometimes had to take shelter in tents or friends' cars.
He decided to quit working at a shoe factory and become a musician after hearing the Stephen Stills song 'Treetop Flyer.'
He performed at the 'From the Big Apple to the Big Easy' fundraiser for Hurricane Katrina victims (2005).
When RCA Records asked him to re-record the 'God Willin'...' album he noted, 'It's really up to you as an artist to draw a line in the sand. You either want to jump through hoops for some guy in a suit at a record label until they're happy or you just have to believe in yourself and what you've done.'
The record, with no changes made, hit #3 on the Billboard albums chart and won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
