Why Mexico City, Mexico might be annoying:

It is located on a massive dry lake bed in a highland basin with an elevation of some 7500 feet — nearly a mile and a half.
In 1629, during the Celestial era, a heavy rainfall flooded the city, causing thousands to lose their estates and thousands more to die. It took several years to recover from the mess.
Leon Trotsky was murdered here in 1940.
In 1950, the population of the greater area was only about 3 million. Half a century later, there would be six times the population.
A magnitude 8 earthquake rocked the city in September 1985, leaving some 70,000 people homeless and $4 billion US in damage — all in three short minutes.
About a day and a half later, a magnitude 7.5 after shock added to the damage.
Taxi drivers have been known to kidnap customers for the sole purpose of getting… their ATM (banking machine) cards! Some victims are detained to exceed the daily withdrawal limit.
The period from June to September, right after its hottest month (May), is considered the wet season.
Rosario Robles Berlanga became the first woman to govern the city in 2000 — after an ally resigned from his post upon losing out on the presidency.

Why Mexico City, Mexico might not be annoying:

It has more than three millennia of cultural achievement to its name.
It served as the capital of the New Spain viceroyalty from a few years after its inauguration to the outbreak of the War of Independence (1810), and then of the varied Mexican states.
The great city of Tenochtitlan, a colonial center of culture and trade in the sixteenth century, went on to become the site of the Historical Center — with over 1,400 monuments of colonial and pre-Hispanic origin.
Frida Kahlo lived in the southern suburb of Coyoacán.
The Angel of Independence monument (or simply El Ángel), built a century after the War of Independence began, is among its most recognizable landmarks, on the downtown Paseo de la Reforma.
The Paseo, named for the liberal reforms of Benito Juarez, runs diagonally across the entire city in a straight line.
The international airport that serves the city is also named for him.
The Torre Mayor, on the Paseo, is considered the tallest building in all of Latin America.
It has the cheapest subway system in the world, with about a dozen different lines, and pre-Columbian artifacts in several stations. In fact, the Pantitlan station has four different transfer points!
It hosted the Miss Universe pageant in 1993 (won by Dayanara Torres).
