Why they might be annoying:

Their first two albums were disastrous and each caused a change to the band's lineup. 'It' was believed to sound too much like Wham!, causing the whole eight person lineup to break apart, except Jarvis. After 'Freaks' was not well received by fans and critics, their second lineup broke apart, causing Jarvis to start from scratch.
During the 1996 'Brit Awards,' Jarvis ran onto the stage while Michael Jackson was performing in a form of protest, since he was performing with children and 'healing' them.
It was claimed that he accidentally injured some of the children in the performance and he spent the night in jail.
The quick fame caused Russell to leave the band to spend time with family.
The fame also caused Jarvis to break with his girlfriend from a long-term relationship, causing an intense amount of stress.

Why they might not be annoying:

'Different Class' won the 1995 Mercury Music Prize which is given to the best British Album of the year.
'Different Class' is considered one of the best British album of all time, going to #1 and spinning off a couple of UK hits.
They had twelve top 40 hits in the UK, including 1995's 'Common People,' 1995's 'Mis-Shapes/Sorted for E's and Wizz,' 1995's 'Disco 2000' and 1997's 'Help the Aged.'
'Common People' and 'Mis-Shapes/Sorted for E's and Wizz' both reached #2 on the UK charts, 'Disco 2000' reached #7 and 'Help the Aged' reached #8.
In 1985, Jarvis fell out of a window, injuring his pelvis, wrist and foot and confining him to a wheelchair.
He still performed at concerts while in the wheelchair.
While attending St. Martin's College, Jarvis was offered a recording session and he recorded 'Seperations,' the album that got them famous.
The 'Brit Awards' incident, although unfortunate for both sides in a way, pushed Pulp into super-stardom.
Even though 'This Is Hardcore' was recorded with a large deal of depression, anxiety and stress, it was still considered one of the best albums of its year.
Russell was originally the president of the Pulp fan club and was asked to join the group as a guitarist (1995).
Jarvis still has a large part in music, mixing for different events and he has a job producing and acting in the next Harry Potter film (2005).
They have influenced a great deal of British bands and many underground/indie rock American bands.
