Why he might be annoying:

His films are slow-moving, long, pretentious, confusing, and dense.
The content and messages of his films often came into conflict with Soviet authorities.
In 25 years as a director he only made seven movies.
Although 'Solaris' was his most popular movie, he regarded it as his least favorite.
He smoked.

Why he might not be annoying:

He studied music and Arabic in Moscow before attending film school.
He is one of the most influential Soviet-era film makers.
He made films that were important to him regardless of money, censorship, or commercial appeal.
He wanted his audiences to watch and experience his films rather than understand and enjoy them.
He wrote that children understood his films better than adults did.
He and Akira Kurosawa were good friends and admired each other's work.
'Andrei Rublyov' was banned by the Soviet authorities and was shown on the last day of the Caanes Film Festival in order to prevent it from winning a prize, but the movie won an award anyway.
His film's consistently won awards at international film festivals.
