The Resume

    (September 30, 1943-September 14, 2009)
    Born in Cordele, Georgia
Birth name was Joseph Lester Powell, Jr.
White House Press Secretary for President Jimmy Carter (1977-81)
    Los Angeles Times columnist (1982-87)

Why he might be annoying:

He was expelled from the US Air Force Academy his senior year for cheating.
He and fellow Carter aide Hamilton Jordan posed for the cover of Rolling Stone as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid; it was the magazine's worst-selling issue of the 1970s.
For some reason, he thought it would be a good idea to tell an AP reporter about the President getting attacked by a killer rabbit (1979).
A longtime chain smoker, he became a flak for the tobacco industry.

Why he might not be annoying:

He started as a driver/gofer during Carter's campaign for governor of Georgia (1970).
Carter said, 'Jody knows me better than anyone else except my wife.'
He lent his voice to the Ken Burns documentaries 'The Civil War' and 'Baseball.'
He bipartisanly formed the PR firm Powell Tate with Nancy Reagan's former press secretary, Shelia Tate (1991).
