Why he might be annoying:

His soft drink was named after Dr. Charles Pepper, a man who had nothing to do with its creation.
He gave manufacturing right of Dr. Pepper to Wade Morrison, the owner of the pharmacy that he worked at, thus barely profiting off of its success.
Wade Morrison named the beverage after Dr. Charles Pepper, the man who gave him his first job.

Why he might not be annoying:

Dr. Pepper is the oldest soft drink manufacturer in the United States.
Dr. Pepper was exhibited at the 1904 World's Fair Exposition in St. Louis.
He graduated medical school at the University of Texas.
