    Drafted 13th overall by the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1937 NFL Draft
    Quarterback/halfback for the Brooklyn Dodgers (1937-41), Boston Yanks (1945) and the New York Yankees (1946)
    Baseball shortstop for the Philadelphia Athletics (1937-38)
    Won the Joe F. Carr Trophy (1940)
    Inducted into College Football Hall of Fame (1955) and the Pro Football Hall of Fame (1972)

    He originally did not want to play pro football until 1937.
    He started his NFL career with a Dodgers team that went 3-7-1.
    His 1940 season was hampered by broken ankles that try put his playing career in jeopardy.
    His baseball playing career in the majors was short-lived.
    He resumed his football career from the military with an awful Yanks team.
    It took him until his final season of his football playing career to play in a championship game, but it was with a Yankee team that lost to the Cleveland Browns in the 1946 AAFC Championship.

    He had a coaching job at Duke in baseball and football.
    He was the first Pro Football Hall of Famer to live to reach his 100th birthday.
    He was the last living baseball player who have played on the same field as Rogers Hornsby and also on the same field as Lou Gehrig until he died.
