Directed episodes of ‘Doctor Who (1967-1975)’ and ‘EastEnders (1990-1992)’

Why he might be annoying:

He tried to be an actor, but failed.
He was accused of stereotyping rural people in his scripts.
He is a pretentious New Ager.
He constantly put references to Buddhism into his sci-fi stories.
He refuses to have anything to do with the Internet.
He upset some people by producing a ‘Doctor Who’ episode implying the Doctor was friends with Communist dictator Mao Tse-Tung.

Why he might not be annoying:

‘Doctor Who’s’ ratings increased during his tenure as producer.
Besides ‘Doctor Who,’ he also produced TV versions of many classic novels.
He remains a popular guest at sci-fi conventions.
