Hockey Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

During an exhibition match-up in Ottawa, ‘Terrible Ted’ was involved in a brutal stick fight with Blues forward Wayne Maki (September 21, 1969).
He ended his playing career with the Winnipeg Jets (then a WHA team), on the cusp of their entry into the NHL ranks.
While he was on five Stanley Cup winning teams as an associate coach with the Oilers, he became head coach the year after their last win.
He was frequently the butt of Esa Tikkanen’s arsenal of practical jokes.
He had an interest in politics, to the point of debating on the cost of bilingual signs across Canada.

Why he might not be annoying:

Next to his NHL penalty record, what he did in the WHA – in 452 games – was nothing.
He was with the WHA for almost its entire run.
When an Oiler center suffered a concussion and ended up with amnesia (1993), he instructed the trainer, ‘Good! Tell him he’s Wayne Gretzky!’
He told a grade school-age boy who was reading a book outside the team dressing room: ‘You’ll go a lot farther doing that than chasing for pucks in the seats.’
Even in retirement he never let his shape atrophy — an attitude that trickled down to his sons.
