Why she might be annoying:

    She was a Communist.
She ran unsuccessfully for New York State Comptroller (1926) and Attorney General (1928).
She recruited spies for the Soviet Union.
Whitaker Chambers described her as ‘a little absurdly imperious and mysterious, as Communist bureaucrats often become.’
After Elizabeth Bentley accused her of being a double agent, she responded, ‘Just remember one thing, if ever you meddle in my affairs again, I'll see that you're taken care of. You'll be put six feet under and you won't come back to do any more talking!’

Why she might not be annoying:

At Barnard College, she was valedictorian and voted ‘most popular.’ (1907)
She became disillusioned with Communism after traveling to the Soviet Union and witnessing the show trials of Stalin’s great purge (1936).
Her clothing and luggage appeared to be untouched, suggesting she had not planned to travel anywhere.
It is generally believed that she was kidnapped and murdered by Soviet agents after she threatened to write a book exposing conditions in the USSR.
