    He was a lawyer.
    He wears large eyewear.
    He mainly got his deputy commissioner post due to his friendship with Bart Giamatti.
    He resigned as commissioner after the owners gave him a no-confidence vote.
    Several of the decisions he made as commissioner were revoked after he resigned.
    He continually gripes about baseball leadership.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He has to use a cane due to a freak accident in college.
    He was baseball's first deputy commissioner.
    He consulted with Giamatti's widow before taking the commissioner position.
    Many observers felt baseball's commissioner post lost its impartiality when he was replaced by Milwaukee Brewers owner Bud Selig.
    He wanted to realign major league divisions so they would be more geographically correct, but the owners wouldn't let him.
    After he resigned, the owners approved division realignment anyway.
    He said 'What makes baseball special is that it deals openly with human frailty. What other sport acknowledges errors in the box score?'
