    (July 25, 1930-April 11, 2018)
    Born in Marinette, Wisconsin
Birth name was Mitzi Lee Saidel
Co-founded the Comedy Store with her husband, comedian Sammy Shore (1972)
Became sole owner after she and Sammy divorced (1974)
She has a piercing nasal voice.
She refused to pay comics for their performances, claiming the Comedy Store was ‘college of comedy’ where comedians honed their craft instead of a business, even though the club was grossing over $20,000 a week by the late 70s.
After comedians successfully picketed the Comedy Store to get paid (1979), she reportedly retaliated against several strike leaders by refusing to book them.
    She spawned Pauly Shore.
Although she was sometimes said to have ‘stolen’ the Comedy Store from her ex, Sammy said he voluntary gave up his ownership share in return for reduced alimony payments. (He also felt she deserved to own the club, having turned it into a financial success while he was away doing gigs in Las Vegas.)
Dozens of comedians got their big break at the Comedy Store, including Freddie Prinze, Robin Williams and Sam Kinison.
During a visit by her to New York, David Letterman took her on a tour of the Late Night offices, telling the employees they met, ‘If it wasn’t for this lady, we wouldn’t have jobs.’
She says she did not show any favoritism to Pauly: ‘I made it tough for him. He had to work hard all around town before he got a break on the stage at the Comedy Store.’
