Why he might be annoying:

He talked with a thick Brooklyn accent.
Under his term as AMPAS president, he hired two producers who in turn hired James Francoand Anne Hathaway in their disastrous turn as hosts.
He also chose Brett Ratner to produce the 2012 Oscars, yet Ratner resigned over insensitive comments.
Entertainment columnist Nikki Finke compared him to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the army during the Vietnam War.
He revived the Academy's efforts to create a museum showcasing filmmaking.
He also guided the expansion of the Best Picture nomination roster from five films to ten.
Months after retiring from the Academy, Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti appointed him as the city's film czar to help lure film and television production back to the city.
