Why they might be annoying:

They were not credited for backing Gary Glitter’s first four singles (the lowest placing fourth on the UK Singles chart).
Hell, it wasn’t until Rock and Roll Part 2 became a white-hot worldwide hit that they were properly formed!
A second drummer was tacked on to represent the double-tracked drum sound that would be heard on Rock and Roll Part 2.
Their first gig would be as a ‘mystery band,’ in 1974.
When Shephard’s guitar broke down, he was outfitted with what he saw as a ‘highly unplayable’ ax.
‘People Like You and People Like Me’ was inspired by a cigarette commercial.
In an attempt to distance themselves from their ‘glitter’ past, they recorded under at least two different names — the first being The G.Band.

Why they might not be annoying:

Even under their more famous moniker, they continued to back Glitter for several more singles.
Glitter had in fact performed with them in the days when they were known as the Boston Show Band.
Never mind, that ‘unplayable’ guitar Shephard was given became the band’s de facto symbol.
With newer band members being injured in separate incidents in such a short time span (1981), some of the earlier members got called to fill up the gaps, ushering in a new era for them.
They made it clear to their company that they were to release their own material. To that end…
Nicki French performed the UK’s 2000 Eurovision entry, ‘Don’t Play That Song Again,’ written by Springate and Shephard.
