Why Howler the Yeti might be annoying:

He was rather scary looking for a mascot.
His tenure as team mascot ended rather abruptly, due to a fan altercation.
The handler was charged with disturbing the peace as a result.
The incident prompted the team to retire the mascot altogether, which never gave it the opportunity to take part in the home games at the Pepsi Center as a result.
Howler would later be replaced a decade later with Bernie the St. Bernard dog.

Why Howler the Yeti might not be annoying:

He was the first mascot following the team's relocation to Denver from Quebec City.
He watched the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup in the team's maiden season in Colorado (1995-96).
He developed a cult following amongst the Avalanche fans in the years following his forced retirement.
He was the inspiration for the Avalanche's famed 'Yeti Foot' secondary logo.
