The Resume

    (December 2, 1859-March 29, 1891)
    Born in Paris, France
    Neo-Impressionist painter
Noted for the pointillist technique, using dots of juxtaposed paint allowing the viewer to blend the colors optically rather than blending the colors on the canvas
Works include 'Bathers at Ansiere' (1884), 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' (1886), 'The Models' (1888) and 'The Circus' (1891)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was withdrawn and secretive.
Edgar Degas nicknamed him 'the notary,' while another friend said that he looked like a floorwalker in a department store.
He lived secretly with model Madeleine Knoblach, who gave birth to his son.
He introduced Madeleine and their child to his parents two days before his death; most of his friends did not know about their relationship until after his death.

Why he might not be annoying:

He studied treatises on optics to develop his ideas on painting.
He died suddenly at age 31 (probably from diphtheria) and his thirteen month old son died from the same disease two weeks later.
His painting 'Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte' was featured in 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off.'
He inspired the Stephen Sondheim musical 'Sunday in the Park with George.'
