    Born in Killingly, Connecticut
    Father of Louis Comfort Tiffany
Award of Merit at the Paris Exposition universelle (1867)
Namesake for the 82-faceted Tiffany Diamond
Co-founder of silversmith and jewelry firm Tiffany & Company (1837) and the New York Society of Fine Arts

Why he might be annoying:

He began by working as a clerk in his father’s shop (nepotism?).
He borrowed $1,000 from his father to start a stationery shop — with the first day’s total purchases being less than $5 (a sizable sum for September 1837).
One of his six children died in 1859 at barely a year old.
He almost always traveled to work on foot, never missing a day (jealous yet?).
Journalists nicknamed him the ‘King of Diamonds.’

Why he might not be annoying:

    ‘Good design is good business.’
By making direct purchases from ships that returned from foreign junkets, he was usually one step ahead of his competitors.
Once he picked up some French artifacts, the Tiffany name really took off.
Ladybird Johnson commissioned his company to design a White House china service with some 90 flowers.
He eventually found a use for his son’s glassmaking craft in his own company.
He pioneered the 925 sterling silver standard (silver is too soft on its own).
He was three days past his 90th birthday at death.
