Oddity

The Resume

    (1992- )
    Raised in Kiama, Australia
As a 9-year-old received liver transplant due to an unidentified virus destroying her old liver
Nine months later blood cells from her body (O negative) were being replaced by blood cells from donor liver (O positive)
Immune system and bone marrow adopted new blood type and she was taken off anti-rejection drugs
Dubbed by scientists and medical experts as the 'one-in-six-billion miracle girl'

Why she might be annoying:

She could not be treated when her old liver failed because nobody knew exactly what was causing its destruction.
A 12-year-old boy died and the OK was given for transplant knowing the risks of rejection from using an unmatched blood type.
Doctors, not believing her own blood type switched, were hesitant to take her off anti-rejection drugs, even though they were making her sick.
Experts still mystified by her medical miracle will perform numerous and at times invasive tests on her to try and replicate the results.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was given 48 hours to live until a liver, with a non-matching blood type, was transplanted into her.
In organ transplant history she is the first ever to experience a self-switching immune system that accepted her new organ as its own.
She is now called the 'holy grail' of transplant patients and the subject of worldwide research.
If scientists figure out how her body did what it did it could revolutionize organ transplantation, eliminate the need for anti-rejection drugs and help patients live longer, healthier lives.
She's been healthy for so long she barely remembers the pain of her ordeal.
She is a grateful teen, stating, 'I am really thankful (to the donor's family) and I hope that so many people can do this too. I would say to other transplant patients: stay strong and determined.'
