His band Sandfrog didn't get much attention until the Angels won the World Series in 2002.
He was arrested after assaulting a cab driver (October 8, 2005).
After his divorce, he got a large tattoo of his mistress on his biceps.

Why he might not be annoying:

His father Ed played for the St. Louis Cardinals.
He wasn't bitter towards any of the teams who released him and received a standing ovation when he returned to Anaheim as a member of the Mariners.
He was a key part of the Angels 2002 team that won the World Series.
His three-run home run was the start of the Angels comeback in game 6 of the series.
