Why he might be annoying:

    He was described as being overlogical, studious and finicky by his peers.
    He broke his wrist after he struck it on a metal sign, while stretching his arm out of a car window.
    He held racist views, going as far as promoting a Caucasian-only policy for earning PGA membership.
    He notably announced his support for the policy during his tenure as PGA president at the San Diego Open, when he excluded Joe Louis and Bill Spiller from participating (1948).
    His name was removed from a major PGA award and a golf tournament after the findings of his views became public knowledge in 2020.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He recorded six professional tournament wins before his 21st birthday.
    He was the first winner of the Masters Tournament.
    He set a PGA record for most career consecutive cuts made (43 between 1927 and 1946).
    He was the only golfer to defeat Bobby Jones during the latter's Grand Slam year (1930).
    He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.
