    Daily high temperatures in June routinely break 100 F.
    Militants from the Lal Masjid (Red Mosque)engaged in a series of escalating confrontations with the authorities, peaking with taking the female workers from a Chinese health care center hostage and setting fire to the headquarters of the Ministry of Environment (2007).
    A military assault on the Lal Masjid resulted in the deaths of 11 soldiers, at least 80 militants, and 14 civilians (July, 2007).
    An al-Qaeda suicide bombing at the Danish embassy killed six people (June 2, 2008).
    A truck bombing of the Islamabad Marriott Hotel killed 54 people (September 20, 2008).

Why Islamabad, Pakistan might not be annoying:

    It was built on the Pothohar Plateau, one of the earliest sites of human settlement in Asia.
    It was designed to contain a lot of green spaces.
    Its buildings were designed to combine modern architecture with traditional Islamic elements.
    The World Bank ranked it as the best city in Pakistan to start a business in.
