The Resume

    (2001- )
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
    Tunde Adebimpe, lead vocals
    Dave Sitek, guitars and keyboards
Jaleel Bunton, drums and bass guitar
Kyp Malone, guitar and bass guitar
    Gerard Smith, bass guitar (2005-11)
Recorded the albums 'Desperate Youth, Blood Thirsty Babes' (2004), 'Return to Cookie Mountain' (2006), 'Dear Science' (2008), 'Nine Types of Light' (2011), and 'Seeds' (2014)

Why they might be annoying:

Adebimpe flunked out of film school.
Their label debut, the EP 'Young Liars' (2003), was never intended for release; it was the side result of Sitek learning to use ProTools for an upcoming job producing another band.
When David Bowie called to mention how much he liked 'Young Liars,' Sitek's initial response was to assume a friend was pranking him.
Before recording 'Dear Science,' Adebimpe took enormous amounts of acid to try to erase his personality: 'I needed to do that, if only to learn that was not the best idea.'

Why they might not be annoying:

Adebimpe has been art director for all the band's albums.
Sitek was #1 on NME's 'Future Fifty' list of the 'most forward-thinking people in music.'
David Letterman was so impressed by their performance of 'Wolf Like Me' (2008) that he extended an open invitation for them to return whenever they had a new album. (They made another four appearances before Letterman went off the air.)
Gerard Smith died at age 36 of lung cancer nine days after 'Nine Types of Light' was released.
The Guardian called them 'a smart band for smart people.'
