The Resume

    (February 18, 1912-June 11, 1985)
    Born in Rochester, New York
    Birth name was Victor Iannidnardo
    Bodybuilder and gym owner
Owned 700 gyms grossing $35 million annually at his peak

Why he might be annoying:

He had one gym gold plated, including gilding the dumbbells.
He used such aggressive sales tactics that it prompted the New York State Attorney General to impose a fair practice code on gyms in the state.
He lost control of his business when a combination of overexpansion and unpaid taxes caused a financial crisis. About half the gyms were sold to rival Bally Total Fitness. The remainder kept the Vic Tanny name, but were bought by company employees or run by franchisees.

Why he might not be annoying:

His gyms were the first designed to be inviting to the general public, with such amenities as carpeting, mirrors, and background music.
He pioneered annual gym memberships and installment plans to attract the working class.
Rudy Smith, President of Holiday Health Spa Clubs, said, 'Vic Tanny was to the gym business what Henry Ford was to the automobile.'
