He left his feet on the ground during many of his shots, long after the jump shot became popular.
He had a 'soft' reputation his first few years in the NBA.
He led good teams who played second banana to the Lakers of the 1950's and the Celtics of the 1960's.
He was replaced as 76ers coach the summer after he won Coach of the Year.

He played in a then-record 764 straight games.
He led Syracuse to the NBA title (1955).
He played for the same team his entire career.
He was a big man who had the shooting range of a guard.
He practiced his free throw shooting by installing a basket with a smaller diameter.
He is a member of the NBA's 25th and 50th Anniversary teams.
His son, Danny, had a decent NBA career.
