    (1979- )
    Located in Colorado
Formerly located in Quebec, Canada (1979-95)
Formerly known as the Quebec Nordiques (1979-95)
Play in Ball Arena (formerly the Pepsi Center)
    Three Stanley Cup Championships (1996, 2001, 2022)
    Five retired numbers: Joe Sakic's #19, Peter Forsberg's #21, Patrick Roy's #33, Adam Foote's #52 and Ray Bourque's #77

Why they might be annoying:

They were sold from their Quebec Nordique owners to present-day Avalanche owners, the COMSAT Entertainment Group, because the team wasn't making enough of a profit.
Their ownership (just like Detroit's) has been credited with making hockey more and more like the other sports by going out and buying a championship-caliber team rather than building one with young, inexperienced players.
They play in the Pepsi Center.

Why they might not be annoying:

They had a great rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens as the Quebec Nordiques.
The Nordiques traded Eric Lindros for Peter Forsberg, Chris Simon, Kerry Huffman, Mike Riccie, Steve Duchesne, Ron Hextal, two draft picks and $15 million dollars (1992).
They won their first Stanley Cup in a sweep against the Florida Panthers.
Players like Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Patrik Roy, Rob Blake and Adam Foote love playing for them.
They have a dedicated fan base.
They provided Ray Bourque with his only Stanley Cup Championship.
They retired Ray's #77 even though he only played one season for them (2000-01).
Patrik Roy ended his career with them.
General Manager Pierre Lacroix is often referred to as the Billy Beane of the NHL for his ability to get players like Teemu Selanne and Paul Kariya to sign with them for little-to-no money.
