Why he might be annoying:

He was named after a Civil War battle.
As a judge he supervised the trials of union leaders and socialists.
As commissioner, he overstepped the limits of his power on numerous occasions.
He did not tolerate criticism of his decisions.
He banned 'Shoeless' Joe Jackson from baseball, despite evidence indicating he did nothing wrong.
He went out of his way to preserve segregation.
He was called the 'tyrant of baseball' by sportswriters.
Even though he never played baseball, he is in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Why he might not be annoying:

As a judge, he was a trust buster who imposed a fine of $29 million on Standard Oil (1907).
He cleaned the game of most corruption after the Black Sox scandal.
He made the spitball illegal and ended the dead ball era.
He gave the Minor Leagues more power.
His actions saved baseball and made it more entertaining.
