The Resume

Why The Jay Leno Show might be annoying:

It felt like Jay's old show in a new time slot.
Jay recycling the 'Headlines' and 'Jaywalking' bits added to that impression.
It pissed off the network's affiliates because it was a weak lead-in to the local news.
NBC announced plans to cut the show to half an hour, move it to 11:35, and bump Tonight back to 12:05.
When Conan O'Brien refused to accept the time slot change, he was dumped as Tonight Show host and Leno was brought back to replace him.
Entertainment Weekly called the show television's 'Biggest Bomb of All Time.'

Why The Jay Leno Show might not be annoying:

Since the show was cheap to produce ($400,000 per episode vs. $3 million for an hour-long drama), NBC was making money off it despite its third-place finish.
Its ratings had consistently met the network's projections.
Since NBC had not developed a hit drama for the 10 o'clock slot in years, it made some sense to gamble on something new.
When ABC and CBS tried to keep their stars from appearing on the show, Leno responded, 'I'm flattered.... What are they so afraid of if we're doing so terrible?'
