The Resume

    (September 9, 1873-October 30, 1943)
    Born in Baden, Austria-Hungary
    Birth name was Maximilian Goldmann
    German theatre director and producer
    Founded the Salzburg Theatre Festival
Produced for Broadway 'The Miracle' (1924), 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' (1927), 'Redemption' (1928), 'The Eternal Road' (1937), 'The Merchant of Yonkers' (1938) and 'Sons and Soldiers' (1943)
Directed the film version of 'Midsummer Night's Dream' (1935)

Why he might be annoying:

He shares a name with a Forward for the Calgary Flames.
He split his only film directing credit with William Dieterle.
This despite the fact that Dieterle had full charge as director for only a week of filming (due to a a breach-of-contract suit filed against Reinhardt by a French film company, which a judge eventually dismissed).
He bizarrely died after a simple dog-bite (which reportedly set off a series of strokes).

Why he might not be annoying:

He fled the Nazis after they annexed Austria.
He was credited with revolutionizing theatre as an art form.
He mentored Josef Von Sternberg and Ernst Lubitsch.
He became a naturalized United States citizen in 1940.
He died without ever reaching his full potential as a Hollywood filmmaker.
His one turn as a film director in 'Midsummer Night's Dream' brought Olivia De Havilland and Mickey Rooney to the public's attention.
He opened the Reinhardt School of the Theater in Hollywood where he gave classical theater training.
A Salzburg castle he had refurbished later gained fame with tourists as a filming site for The Sound of Music.
