The Resume

    (February 9, 1887-March 14, 1969)
    Born in Manhattan, New York
    Birth name was Henry Zimmerman
Infielder for the Chicago Cubs (1907-16) and New York Giants (1916-19)
    .295 batting average
    Triple Crown winner (1912)

Why he might be annoying:

He was not recognized as a Triple Crown winner until more than a century after it happened. (Note: RBIs were not officially tracked until 1920, so totals for earlier seasons had to be computed retroactively from box scores and other records. Honus Wagner was originally credited with the 1912 RBI title, but a re-examination of the records in 2015 showed that Zimmerman had had more RBIs that season.)
Many fans blamed him for the Giants’ loss in the decisive game six of the 1917 World Series, when a busted rundown left him chasing after Eddie Collins in an ultimately futile attempt to tag Collins before he reached home.
He was banned from baseball after approaching several Giants players with bribe offers if they helped throw games.
He operated a speakeasy with gangster Dutch Schultz.
He was named an unindicted co-conspirator when the Feds pressed tax evasion and racketeering charges against Schultz (1935).

Why he might not be annoying:

He had to work as a plumber’s apprentice at age 14 to help with the family finances.
He was a powerful hitter, with teammate Joe Tinker saying, ‘He has the strongest pair of hands and arms that I have ever seen on a human being.’
Giants manager John McGraw blamed the 1917 Series loss on pitcher Rube Benton and first baseman Walter Holke, since one of them should have moved to cover home plate when catcher Bill Rairden ran up the third base line to start the rundown.
