The Resume

    (February 7, 1929- )
    Born in Tocopilla, Chile
Directed 'Fando y Lis' (1967), 'El Topo' (1970), 'The Holy Mountain' (1973), 'Tusk' (1980), 'Santa Sangre' (1989) and 'The Rainbow Thief' (1990)
With Moebius created the sci-fi comic 'L'Incal' (1981-89)
Other comics or graphic novels include 'The Technopriests,' 'Son of the Gun,' 'The White Lama,' 'The Madwoman of the Sacred Heart' and 'Borgia'

Why he might be annoying:

Before going into film, he was a circus clown and a mime.
When his first feature film, 'Fando y Lis,' premiered at the Acapulco Film Festival, it triggered a full scale riot.
His comments include 'Most directors make films with their eyes. I make films with my balls' and 'If you're great, El Topo is a great picture. If you're limited, El Topo is limited.'
Critic Danny Peary wrote about El Topo, 'That this film is beyond our comprehension doesn't make it profound.'
In the 'El Topo' script he writes about a scene where a female character hugs a rock and is squirted by a stream of water, 'The stone is an exact replica of my own phallus: thick, not very long, but with a voluminous head.'
He is heavily into tarot cards and spent a decade reconstructing the original form of the Tarot of Marseilles. (Which seems only slightly more useful than reconstructing the original form of the Magic 8-Ball.)
He threatened to sue Luc Bresson for allegedly copying 'L'Incal' in the film 'The Fifth Element,' then, when that failed, claimed that he considered it an honor to have inspired Bresson.
He officiated at the wedding of Marilyn Manson and Dita Von Teese (2005).

Why he might not be annoying:

'El Topo' was one of the first successful 'midnight movies.'
According to Peter Gabriel, 'El Topo' was an inspiration for the Genesis concept album 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.'
John Lennon was impressed enough by 'El Topo' to invest $1 million (through Apple Corps) in 'The Holy Mountain.'
As a result of a dispute with Apple's head honcho Allen Klein, 'El Topo' and 'The Holy Mountain' were out of circulation for over three decades.
His son Teo died in an auto accident (1995).
He was cited as an influence by David Lynch.
