The Resume

    (January 20, 1894-May 9, 1968)
    Born in Kankakee, Illinois
    Cartoonist
Created the comic strip ‘Little Orphan Annie’ (1924)

Why he might be annoying:

His original strip idea was ‘Little Orphan Otto’ until publisher Joseph Medill Patterson told him there already were enough adventure strips featuring young boys.
For some reason, Annie didn’t just lose her parents – she also lost the freaking pupils from her eyeballs!
He was such an opponent of Franklin Delano Roosevelt that he killed off uber-capitalist Daddy Warbucks in 1944, feeling the two could not co-exist. (After FDR’s death, Daddy Warbucks reappeared, claiming to have faked his demise.)
During WWII, he used the strip to kvetch about not being given extra gas rationing coupons after an Office of Price Administration clerk decided that cartooning was not vital to the war effort.

Why he might not be annoying:

Both his parents died before he finished high school.
He served in the Army as a bayonet instructor during World War I.
’Little Orphan Annie’ was named the most popular comic strip in a ‘Fortune’ magazine poll (1937).
During World War II, Annie led a group of children called ‘Junior Commandos’ in collecting newspapers, scrap metal and other recyclables for the war effort – and inspired the creation of real-life Junior Commando groups.
He was pretty progressive on racial issues, such as depicting a black kid as a ‘sergeant’ in the Junior Commandos.
