Why he might be annoying
He popularized granny glasses among 60s rockers.
After joining Subud, he changed his first name from Jim to Roger because he was told a name starting with 'R' would vibrate better with the universe (1967).
He has had an on-and-off feud with fellow Byrd David Crosby.
He wrote a musical based on Ibsen's 'Peer Gynt' that was never produced. (Although he did record several of the songs written for the project with the Byrds.)
He complained, 'There are people now who play acoustic instruments and call themselves folk singers, but they aren't playing folk songs.'
Why he might not be annoying
He bought an electric Rickenbacker guitar after seeing the Beatles in 'A Hard Day's Night.'
David Crosby said, 'I think he's brilliant and I'd give most of the credit for the Byrds' success to him.'
He did not change his name again when he left Subud and became a born-again Christian.
He and Tom Petty are dead ringers vocally, with McGuinn claiming that when he first heard Petty's 'American Girl' on the radio, 'I said, 'When did I record that?''
He testified before a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on downloading music from the internet, noting that Columbia Records never paid the Byrds any royalties on their singles, while they were receiving a 50% royalty from MP3.com (2000).
