Why he might be annoying:

    He was an alcoholic.
    He had a gambling addiction.
    When he interviewed Mae West at her Ravenswood apartment for a Person to Person segment, he asked about the mirrors by her bed. She answered 'They're for personal observation. I always like to know how I'm doing' (the segment never aired).
    He was nicknamed 'The Duke of Collingwood.'
    He struggled to fill Edward R. Murrow's shoes hosting Person to Person, and the show petered out after two years as a result.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Queen Elizabeth II named him an Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
    He was substitute anchor during portions of CBS's coverage of the Kennedy assassination on November 22, 1963, minutes after Walter Cronkite announced the President's death.
    He led in CBS's expansion to include international coverage.
    He was the first US reporter to report from North Vietnam.
    The White House Tour interview was viewed by 80 million viewers and globally syndicated to 50 countries, including Russia and China.
    He won an Overseas Press Club award in 1968 and two Peabody Awards in 1942 and 1955.
