The Resume

    (May 19, 1943- )
    Born in Muskegon, Michigan
    Miss Arizona (1964)
    Miss America (1965)
Appeared in the film 'Teenage Diary' (1960)

Why she might be annoying:

For the talent portion of the Miss America pageant, she did a ventriloquism act.
She recorded four albums of inspirational music. (At least she recorded them solo, without the dummy.)
In her book 'That Girl in Your Mirror' (1966), she advised teenage girls they could become more beautiful through 'that inner spark only Christ can give.' (Although she also provided the more practical -- or at least easier to fulfill at the cosmetics counter -- advice of using lots of moisturizer.)

Why she might not be annoying:

When Miss America host Bert Parks said, 'We understand that you carry your Bible as a good-luck charm,' she replied, 'I don't consider my Bible a good-luck charm. I consider it the most important book I own.'
She was the first (and through 2022 only) Miss Congeniality to win Miss America.
She said about her Miss Congeniality title, 'I want to always be kind, considerate, friendly, compassionate, and caring.'
    She earned a pilot's license (1967).
