The Resume

    (February 2, 1864-July 28, 1945)
Born in Peeblesshire, Scotland, United Kingdom
Birth name was Emma Margot Tennant
Married to British Prime Minister H.H. Asquith (1894-1928)
Mother of director Anthony Asquith and author Elizabeth Bibesco

Why she might be annoying:

She noted, 'I have the sort of face that bores me when I see it on other people.'
During World War I, she accused her shell-shocked stepson of being drunk.
She opposed giving women the vote, writing, 'Women have no reason, very little humor, hardly any sense of honor, and no sense of proportion.'
She advertised Wix cigarettes to make money after her husband's death.
However, she mostly survived by issuing IOUs and hoping the holders would be too gentlemanly to anything as gauche as demanding payment.
Dorothy Parker wrote about her memoirs, 'The affair between Margot Asquith and Margot Asquith will live as one of the prettiest love stories in all literature.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She had a lifelong love of horse riding.
Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote a poem about her.
Three of her five children died in infancy.
She was known for her bon mots about politicians, such as David Lloyd George ('He could not see a belt without hitting below it') and Stafford Cripps ('He has a brilliant mind until he makes it up').
At a dinner party where actress Jean Harlow kept mispronouncing her first name, she eventually explained, 'My dear, the 't' is silent, as in 'Harlow.''
