Internet Website

The Resume

    Launched in 2005
Founded by Steve Huffman & Alexis Ohanian
Acquired by Condé Nast Publications (October, 2006); later owned by Advance Publications
Premise: Users can submit links and/or self-posts to various subreddits, which are then voted 'up' or 'down' by fellow users, depending on interest and relevance
Website is divided into various subreddits pertaining to certain topics (politics, religion, sports, etc.)

Why Reddit might be annoying:

A lot of its users take the karma system way too seriously.
Many users downvote comments/links just for disagreeing with them.
Its user base is stereotyped as being pothead atheist college liberals with massive neckbeards.
Most of its political and religious discussions are heavily one-sided.
Some of its subreddits are extremely graphic in nature; some of these subreddits have included multiple pictures of dead bodies, 'jailbait' teenagers, and some of the most depraved pornography you can imagine.
A lot of its content is alleged to have been stolen from 4chan.
Despite this, its users get upset when other websites steal their material.
It houses a lot of annoying and unfunny image macros (aka 'memes') and rage comics.

Why Reddit might not be annoying:

It has subreddits devoted to almost every topic imaginable, so there's something for everyone.
It doesn't mind mocking itself and has subreddits set up for users to lampoon the website.
Its users united to contribute to various charities and individuals needing assistance.
In addition, it has self-help forums for people with bad social skills or with suicidal tendencies.
It participated in the massive internet blackout in January 2012 to protest the SOPA act.
It has hosted interactive question and answer sessions between its users and various celebrities including Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and even President Barack Obama.
    It is highly addicting.
