Why he might be annoying:

He purposely misspells his name as 'Jaymz.'
He named his son Castor Virgil.
Pictures of him from the late 80s/early 90s bear a striking resemblance to the cowardly lion from 'The Wizard of Oz.'
He likes to hunt.
Before he co-founded Metallica, he was in a band called 'Leather Charm.'
He has an overly dramatic stage presence.
He is an alcoholic.
He is a vegetarian.
His band went after fans who downloaded their music on Napster.
Although he is the lead singer, Lars (the drummer) is the main spokesperson for Metallica.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is incredibly accident-prone and has received numerous serious injuries.
He at one time played a guitar emblazoned with the message 'Kill Bon Jovi.'
His parents were Christian Scientists and would refuse all medical treatment based on their religious convictions - they both died of cancer.
He has a reputation for being very honest, easy-going, and down-to-earth.
He stood too close to pyrotechnics at a Metallica concert and suffered second degree burns.
