Golfer

The Resume

    (October 24, 1960- )
    Born in Nambour, Queensland, Australia
    17 professional tour wins
    1991 British Open Champion
Golf analyst on both ESPN and ABC (1998-2006)
Hole announcer for PGA coverage on CBS

Why he might be annoying:

His performance at the 1984 British Open was remembered for him blowing a 36-hole lead and finishing ninth overall after a lousy final day.
His performance in the years after his victory at the 1991 British Open were dismal.
He lost his psychological edge in the later seasons of his career.
He frequently tinkered with his swing, which further added to his problems with his on-field performance.
Over a two-year period (1995-96), he either missed the cut, withdrew after the first round, or was disqualified in all 29 PGA Tour events that he entered.
He cried in the locker room after his performance at the 1997 Open at Royal Troon, having shot a 92, which was considered an extraordinarily bad score by professional golf standards.

Why he might not be annoying:

He grew up in the same Queensland-area neighbourhood as PGA great Greg Norman.
He considers Jack Nicklaus his greatest golf influence.
He started his professional golf career on the PGA Tour of Australasia.
He won golf tournaments on four different continents during his career.
He was considered a surprise champion by golf pundits, after he defeated Mike Harwood by two strokes to win the 1991 British Open.
He stayed in golf, by working as a golf course designer and a broadcaster in the years after retiring from active play.
