Composer

The Resume

    (January 29, 1876-November 28, 1972)
Born in Dresden, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom
    Birth name was William Brian
Composed 32 symphonies and five operas

Why he might be annoying:

His first marriage collapsed over his affair with a servant (who became his second wife after the first one died).
The children of his second marriage did not know about his first marriage until offspring from that union showed up at his funeral.
Since his compositions were rarely performed, he had to support himself as a music journalist for most of his life.
His Symphony No. 1 calls for an orchestra of 200 and a choir of 400. (Seeing why his works are rarely staged?)
The first recording of one of his compositions was made the year he died.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a self-taught composer.
He was one of the few classical composers to come from the working class.
His opera 'The Tiger,' begun during World War I, was a pointed satire of warfare.
He composed 22 symphonies after turning 80.
He and his second wife Hilda were married for 59 years.
