Why Seoul, South Korea might be annoying:

    Regular cable TV was not operational until 1995 and satellite was not operational until 1996.
    The first records of Seoul's existence were not written by the Koreans, but by the Chinese.
    Buddhist monks were banned from the city for nearly 500 years between 1400 and 1900.
    Korean President Park Chung-hee was assassinated there (1979).
    It has been captured/occupied by numerous foreign powers.
    The city is located dangerously close to the North Korean border.
    It was so crowded at one point that the government built whole new towns to encourage dispersal.
